Barry C. Barish Elected as a Foreign Member of the Royal Society
Barry C. Barish (LIGO Caltech) has been elected as a Foreign Member of the Royal Society. The Royal Society is a fellowship of many of the world's most eminent scientists, engineers, and technologists from the UK and the Commonwealth. It's the oldest scientific society of its kind in continuous existence. Fellows and Foreign Members are elected for life through a peer review process based on their excellence in science. Barish, along with Rainer Weiss and Kip S. Thorne, was awarded the 2017 Nobel Prize in Physics "for decisive contributions to the LIGO detector and the observation of gravitational waves".
