Stanley Whitcomb Wins the 2019 Isaacson Award in GW Science
Stanley Whitcomb (LIGO Caltech, retired) has been awarded the 2019 Richard A. Isaacson Award in Gravitational-Wave Science, the APS has announced. Dr Whitcomb, who most recently served as Chief Scientist of the LIGO Lab, is recognized "For extraordinary contributions to the conceptualization, design, construction, commissioning, and operation of the LIGO detectors; and for his stewardship of the global gravitational wave community, including developing the partnership between LIGO and Virgo, and establishing LIGO-India." The annual award "recognizes outstanding contributions in gravitational-wave physics, gravitational-wave astrophysics, and the technologies that enable this science." Stan is the 1st recipient of this award, and will receive a $5,000 prize and a commemorative certificate. The award will be presented at the APS April 2019 meeting.
