1st Detection of Gravitational Waves from Colliding Neutron Stars Was Made A Year Ago
LIGO commemorates the 1st detection of gravitational waves (and light) produced by colliding neutron stars, observed by LIGO and VIRGO on August 17, 2017. It was the 1st time an astrophysical event was seen in both gravitational waves and electromagnetic waves, marking the beginning of multi-messenger astronomy.
