On March 10-12, 2016 Caltech held General Relativity at 100, the 6th Biennial Francis Bacon Conference to commemorate the 100th anniversary of Einstein's General Relativity. One of the topics explored at the conference was the discovery of gravitational waves by LIGO. Barry Barish, Caltech's Ronald and Maxine Linde Professor of Physics, Emeritus, and former director of LIGO, presented a talk titled "The Quest for Gravitational Waves".
